I owe you a riddle

Lukasz Erecinski Dec 18. 2020 139

The riddle has been solved and we’ll be contacting the winner in the coming days. The comments section has now been locked until January. Thank you to everyone who played along!

The correct answer is: QUARTZ64

In the event you’re interested, you can learn more about the riddle here.

In the November Community Update I promised you a riddle concerning the naming of our upcoming range of RK3566 Single Board Computers.

The person to solve the riddle first will receive the first board straight from the production line. Leave your guess in the comments section.

If no one guesses correctly by then Monday, December 21, when the blog comments will get turned off due to the website being overhauled, then we’ll continue this community challenge on the forums. I’ll edit this post with a forum link if need be.

Good luck!

Wistyx

Between a Pine and a Rock

My origins are to be found

Heritage of the sun and sand

Locked in cogs circle round

Now here alone I stand

It all makes sense

Shifted one to the right

Look down and ahead

In your line of sight

The solution can be read

Pines have roots. Roots are between the tree and the rocks. The roots give the pines life. The origins of life are yet to be found. Life is an endless cycle.

I may be reading too much into this…

    Eugene Sanderson says:

    PineOne.
Coming from a cogg like pine (the pinyone that groes in mexico) but pinion/pinyone seems far fetched so shift the y out. Sun and sand heritage? Well that is the mayans that is in mexico

    Daniel Llewellyn says:

Wistyx – letters to the left of each on a qwerty keyboard are QUARTZ.
The riddle refers to sun and sand which forms the basis of creating crystals.
The riddle refers to cogs circle around which is a reference to clocks and watches that use quartz crystals for keeping accurate time.
The riddle says now here alone I stand so we infer that the quartz is the bit we’re looking for from the clock/watch/gears reference.

Hence: answer is Quartz or Quartz64.

It’s an analog pine time. So it has real watch hands with a digital display over it that’s invisible when turned off.

    Chronos.

Shifted 1 right is maybe a reference to the author’s timezone UTC +1.

Anyway, I hope it doesn’t have ‘rock’ in it, when your competition has boards named “rock pi”.

    Christopher Brinker says:

Quartz is between Pine and Rock, alphabetically. Weathering quartz makes sand, so that’s the heritage. Locked in cogs circled round: quartz is Si02, chemically, so a Silicone molecule with two oxygen molecules ‘circling round’. One to the right of Si on the periodic table is P(hosphorous). Looking down a line and ahead you have Selenium, Bromine, and Krypton. Bromine is a red liquid. So ‘the solution can be read’ means Bromine?

My last guess of the day 🙂

    sphinx and thus sphinx64 i presume 🙂

just because of the riddle of the sphinx 😉

at lzast you will have collected a few cool name, you can produce board for a couple years now 😉

    Julius Guthunz says:

This is quite a difficult riddle 🤯
The best that I can think of is pine R64
(since there is an R locked in cogs (Rust language) shown at the pinetime page)
    or pine K64
(same reasoning but with the KDE pinephone)

It could be “pineone” because of the message it refers to all their current products, it reminds me of “one for all Boku no Hīrō Akademia” jajajaja

I like the thoughts about using the periodic table. Although when all is shifted right, one might need to go one left. Then one down and ahead I see GErmanium and ARsenic.

    GEAR64
