I am pleased to announce that pre-orders for the PinePhone BETA Edition will open on March 24. The PinePhone BETA Edition is powered by KDE Plasma Mobile and Manjaro Linux.
To learn more about the BETA Edition please read the March Community Update.
PinePhone BETA Edition will be made available in two hardware configurations:
- $149 — 2GB RAM; 16GB eMMC
- $199 — 3GB RAM; 32GB eMMC (includes a USB-C dock)
Both configurations feature the newest PCBA revision (1.2b). The $199 hardware variant, called convergence package, also includes a USB-C dock equipped with 10/100 Ethernet, 2x USB type A ports, HDMI digital video output and power-in via USB-C.
We currently expect to start shipping the PinePhone BETA Edition in late April.

What time will it open?
I am also interested in this information.
There isn’t a set time, usually its later afternoon or evening CET/ GMT.
But there isn’t a reason to rush; if you’re first in line or 1001st in line doesn’t affect when your order ships – all units ship at the same time. So take it easy.
I believe they do run out real fast
Waiting for this awesome thing to land in my hands !
Will the beta edition ship to south america?
With some exceptions – notably Brazil – it will ship to South America
Looking forward to this
The February Community Update doesn’t mention the pinephone beta. You meant the March update.
Indeed, thanks – fixed
Can I run Ruby shit on this?
It’s a mainline linux distro on your phone, so you can run on it whatever you want. I’ve got a Pinephone and you can simply ssh into it and treat it like any linux server. It’s obviously not meant to run as a server, but if you want you can run nginx/apache and mysql on it. Hack away!
Sign me up! Really looking forward to having something new to tinker with.
Will I have to pre register to preorder ?
How many units are available ?
Thank you.
Can you ship a couple pine, manjaro and KDE stickers within the box for pasting on the back of the phone. I would love the whole world to know what phone I’m using! 😀
Hello, can you send it to Uzbekistan?
Will the beta edition ship to India?
Sadly no, we’ve lost too many PinePhones at the Indian boarder to consider it viable. With each unit lost we’re also the ones to compensate the end-users.
Why? What do you mean by lost at Indian Border? I have got some shipments from Olimex, Bulgaria through DHL without issues.
Will I be able to order new version of the Pinephone Mainboard? I own UBPorts CE at the moment. Will it be shipped to India?
I look forward to getting my hands on one. 😁
My only question is regarding the convergence package, which includes a USB-C dock equipped with 10/100 Ethernet, 2x USB type A ports, HDMI digital video output and power-in via USB-C.
Why go with a performance degraded dock? Why not incorporate a gigabit ethernet, usb type 3 ports, and mini display port along with an HDMI port?
Maybe some of these reasons
– maximum global compatibility (not everyone has gigabit yet)
– keep the costs a bit lower, older designed parts are cheaper
– provide a reason for customers to upgrade to the next version with gigabit 😉
This dock is a perfect match for the PinePhone as it cannot take advantage of USB 3.0 speeds and therefore also GbE.
Can we get a 4 gb version? And 64gb rom? Kinda today’s lowest standard the specs are currently weak.
This phone is still in beta stage, I think the idea is to make sure people are interested and get the OS development further along – I don’t believe this CPU can work with greater than 3GB ina useful way yet. So as things get smoothed out I’d imagine a future phone will be more concerned with more performance. Linux on Cellphones is still not very mature despite the existence of Android and occasional attempts at creating such a thing (there are a couple of Linux distros meant to be added to an Android phone but their reach is limited and the phnoes aren’t built and developed from the ground up for Linux).
Wielu operatorów rezygnuje juz z 2g, 3g a nawet zastanawiaja sie nad wylaczeniem lte
jak długo taki telefon będzie działał? Czy moge w przyszłości wymienić w nim moduł telefonii?
Teraz u nas, w Polsce, trwa migracja z 2G i 3G, do 4G i 5G (taką informację znalazłem tu: https://www.telepolis.pl/wiadomosci/wydarzenia/polska-powolny-koniec-sieci-2g-3g).
2) Według specyfikacji tego modemu (http://static.abstore.pl/design/accounts/soyter/img/dokumentacje/quectel_eg25-g.pdf), on wspiera LTE Cat 4.

Hello,
I am more and more tempted to buy the PinePhone. Don’t know if I can wait the keyboard results first any longer.
My question about the LoRa “module”: will this be implemented in a special chip inside of the PinePhone or will it be realized by an external module that you can clip onto the PinePhone via the Pogo Pins? Will you have to produce a new motherboard for the PinePhone or is this technology feasable with current PinePhone? Thanks in advance.
The LoRa module will be built into a custom back case and interface with the PinePhone via the pogo pins.
Thank you very much for your answer.
Can the PinePhone be (pre)ordered together with the keyboard once/if both are in stock to save shipping and environmental costs? Or will it never be possible due to the high amount of battery ~ 9000+ mAh sent in a single package?
Lookin good!
I have been watching this project since before Braveheart was announced, but have zero technical skills and no idea of how to learn them.
The money has been saved, set aside, and is burning a hole in my pocket for when a Consumer Ready Edition is ready.
Kudos to everyone that has helped bring the project this far.
Developers,
I am teetering on the fence, I want one now, my finger has been on the trigger all day, But I don’t want to buy twice for my family of 4
will the finished consumer ready product be a software flash or will it be hardware upgrades ?
This project is very important to me as are all Open Source projects

Hey Lucasz, there’s no option available to ship to Maharashtra, India. Can you please please arrange for 1 $149 Pinephone at Maharashtra, India? I’ll pay the courier charges. Perhaps you can order it to the nearest address to the manufacturing center and send it via DHL or other.
I don’t want to buy ridiculous Androids anymore. Please do this small favor.
Will it ship to Sweden? I get this message when trying to order:
There are no shipping options available. Please ensure that your address has been entered correctly, or contact us if you need any help.
That is probably because you added another Pine64 product to you shopping cart. When (pre)ordering a PinePhone you can not add other items (unless it is prebundled like PinePhone with USB-C-adapter).
Thanks, that was indeed the problem.
I’ve been lurking around this project for some time now and would very much like to have a PinePhone, but I each time I try to place an order, I just get a message saying “The card was declined.” with no further explanation. Is there another way to make a payment? (I don’t have or want a Paypal account)
If you’re using a VPN that may be the problem. I’ve noticed payment processors like Stripe and PayPal present issues when attempting to pay when you’re connected with a VPN.
No VPN that I’m aware of.
Once the Pinecil becomes available again, I’d like to order a few more things, but unless something changes I won’t be able to.
improve keyboard in pinebook. mechanic keys, bigest, num pad for blender etc.
Hi There, will the Signal App be coming to the OS? I’ve just got all of my friends and family on to it, and Element/Matrix isn’t as intuitive.

Hi
Can I apply to be contributor in Taiwan?

For Europeam orders, is it possible to have shipment from within EU in order to avoid customs delays and excessive customs fees?
Lookin good!
